The primary purpose of the role is to ensure that Council’s strategic planning documents, policies and land management plans are prepared efficiently and effectively in accordance with best practice and statutory requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare, develop and contribute to high level documentation related to development control plans, local environmental plans and local strategic planning statements in line with Council’s strategic objectives.
- Represent Council as an expert witness on planning, environmental and heritage matters in relation to litigation and appeals through the Local and Land and Environment Courts.
- Establish and contribute to investigations on potential planning, environmental and heritage related matters and developing reports as required.
- Provide advice and resolve issues on development and strategic planning related matters, supporting decision making with stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes for the effective management of projects and service delivery.
- Assess and process rezoning applications and enquiries according to Council’s strategies, policies and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
We are looking for someone who
- Can exercise independent judgement and recommendations based on synthesis of a variety of conflicting views and policy/legal requirements in resolving issues of high sensitivity and / or complex operational challenges.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Communicates, influences & negotiates effectively with both internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of key services.
- Provides specialist advice to stakeholders on major areas of policy or issues of significance to Council.
We are seeking someone who has or is willing to obtain:
- Bachelor of Regional and Urban Planning or equivalent AND 5 years’ experience in a related environment
- Safework Construction Induction Certificate (WHS White Card)

Salary: Range from $87,422 to $100,536 pa + 11% super
