What is a School-based Traineeship?

A School-based Traineeships allow students to combine their schooling with part-time on-the-job training and formal study to achieve a Nationally-Recognised Qualification.

This type of learning is a great way to get your career off to a head-start while remaining at school and you can be well under way to getting a qualification before you have finished Year 12.

Applicants starting year 11 in 2025, speak to your careers advisor for more information about how this will work with your schooling.

Your School-based Traineeship term is two (2) years.

A bit about the role:

The Library is a key service to our community. A major part of this role is working with a dedicated and passionate team and interacting with Library patrons to provide a high level of effective customer service. It provides the opportunity to be creative in all areas of your work. You will come into contact with a wide variety of people and work all over the Richmond Valley. Our staff pride themselves in being customer focused, professional, positive and flexible in serving the needs of our community.

This position can be located at either our Casino or Evans Head Library.

In a trainee, we look for:

  • A creative mind that also has an eye for detail
  • Someone who enjoys working on a computer
  • Someone who enjoys working with people of all ages

What you can learn:

  • All aspects of library services
  • Planning and running of events and programs
  • Communication skills
  • A variety of software applications
  • How to manage your time and priorities 

Suggested qualification may be a Certificate III in Library and Information Services.
