The primary purpose of the role is to provide a high level of service, support and maintenance in the operation of Council’s waste and resource recovery facilities in line with Council’s Delivery and Operational Plans.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise, provide guidance and oversight of landfill operators work to ensure tasks are completed safely and effectively in accordance with Council’s operational plans and best practice guidelines.
  • Mentor landfill operators through on-the-job training and procedural support to build operations competence.
  • Operate and maintain plant to complete routine waste management tasks, in compliance with Environment Protection Authority (EPA) standards.
  • Organise accurate screening and sorting of incoming waste to reduce landfill quantities and ensure that materials as deposited in correct locations such as recyclables, inert waste, asbestos etc.
  • Monitor EPA compliance and initiate remedial actions, if necessary, in consultation with the Assistant Overseer or Overseer.\
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming waste and outgoing recyclable and reusable material, support gatehouse operations, receipt of monies and daily balancing of financial transactions.
  • Promote a safety-first culture within the team by ensuring adherence to Council’s safety policies & procedures and report any infringement to senior staff when necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement of quality control procedures to ensure landfill operation and plant and equipment comply with legislative regulations and safety requirements.

  • The ability to support and guide other operators, building competence and confidence
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work between Nammoona in Casino and the Transfer Station in Evans Head, as needed

We are seeking someone who has:

  • Construction Induction Certificate (WHS White Card)
  • Current Class HR Driver Licence
  • Nationally accredited certificate of competency for LL – Front End Loader
  • Nationally accredited certificate of competency for LE – Excavator
  • Nationally accredited certificate for Work Near Overhead Powerlines
  • Nationally accredited certificate or competency for Self-Propelled Compactor
  • SafeWork High Risk Licence for LF – Forklift

About the Role

Full time: 76-hour fortnight

Salary: Range from $61,885 to $71,167 pa + 12% super

This role may attract penalty rates if weekend and public holiday shifts are worked, in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
